Alexander Muir
Alexander graduated from the University of Western Australia in 2009 with a Bachelor of Science (Exercise and Health) Honours before completing a Masters in Occupational Therapy at Curtin University of Technology. After graduating in 2013 Alex spent 2 years working in vocational rehabilitation, completing home assessments, ergonomic assessments, functional pre-employment screening, worksite assessments and graduated return to work programs. It was during this time Alex further developed a passion for mental health.
Alex spent the next 5 years working in clinical mental health with the past 4 years in a community mental health role as a Functional Recovery Program Coordinator/Team Leader, a role that included the development of therapeutic group programs. Alex has completed training in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT).
Alex has recently moved to Canada with his family and looks forward to making a positive contribution to Newfoundland communities through his work with IOHS. Alex looks after his own mental health through regular practice of self-care activities including trail running, practicing mindfulness and spending time with his two young daughters.
Alex is a member of Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT), Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Occupational Therapists (NLAOT) and is licensed to practice by the Newfoundland and Labrador Occupation Therapy Board (NLOTB). Alex is also registered to practice Occupational Therapy in Australia, with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
